Rape or sexual assault is a violent crime as much as it is a sex crime. In New Jersey, prosecutors and law enforcement take violent crimes such as a sexual assault charge very seriously. Those convicted of violent sex crimes can face long jail terms, invasive probation and registration as a sex offender. Because of the serious nature of violent sex crimes, it is vital that individuals accused of such crimes seek skilled counsel.
A 21-year-old New Jersey man is facing serious prison time for sexual assault and kidnapping. According to New Jersey law enforcement the man went to the victim’s home on Sioux Street in Bethlehem on July 25. While at the home, the man reportedly fought with the woman before he sexually assaulted her. Court records say the man then ordered the woman and her young son to come back to New Jersey with him.
Police were eventually able to locate the woman and her child at the man’s home in Bergen County, New Jersey. After raping the woman, police claim that he forced her and her child into the vehicle and drove nearly 87 miles to his New Jersey home. Prosecutors charged the suspect with multiple criminal charges that include kidnapping, unlawful restraint, terroristic threats, rape and endangering the welfare of a child.
Individuals accused of sexual assault in New Jersey face very serious penalties including long prison sentences. Rather than sitting on the sidelines waiting to see how things turn out it is vital that people accused of such crimes have representation to ensure they are afforded the best defense possible.
