Individuals accused of sex crimes face a tough road. In addition to criminal penalties, such as fines and jail time, individuals' accused of a sex crime can face serious repercussions to their personal and professional life as well. This is especially true if the alleged crime involves allegations of sexual assault or rape against a minor child. New Jersey readers may find the following blog on the arrest of New Jersey man interesting.

Law enforcement authorities in Bergen County, New Jersey, have reported that a New Jersey man is facing a sexual assault charge involving an unnamed and underage girl. The 43-year-old Elmwood Park man is accused of engaging in unknown sexual activities with a minor on more than one occasion. He is currently in the custody of Bergen County, according to authorities. The man's bail bond has been set at $250,000.

According to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office, the man is charged with multiple sex crimes involving a minor including aggravated sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child and sexual assault. Police and prosecutors have not said if the man accused has a prior criminal record. If convicted, the man would face serious, long-term consequences, including the life-long stigma of being a registered sex offender.

The sexual assault of a minor is considered one of the most heinous crimes a person can commit. Because of this, prosecutors pursue individuals' accused of such sex crimes with particular intensity. Unfortunately, while such intensity may appeal to parents and local media, it can also result in bad police work and a presumptive conviction. In such cases, a qualified criminal defense attorney is not only important it is vital.
