Law enforcement authorities in Bergen County, New Jersey, have reported that a New Jersey man is facing a sexual assault charge involving an unnamed and underage girl. The 43-year-old Elmwood Park man is accused of engaging in unknown sexual activities with a minor on more than one occasion. He is currently in the custody of Bergen County, according to authorities. The man's bail bond has been set at $250,000.
According to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office, the man is charged with multiple sex crimes involving a minor including aggravated sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child and sexual assault. Police and prosecutors have not said if the man accused has a prior criminal record. If convicted, the man would face serious, long-term consequences, including the life-long stigma of being a registered sex offender.
The sexual assault of a minor is considered one of the most heinous crimes a person can commit. Because of this, prosecutors pursue individuals' accused of such sex crimes with particular intensity.
