When young individuals are charged with criminal activity, it is important that they and their guardians understand the allegations. Juvenile assault and similar charges could lead to minors facing serious punishment if they are convicted. Therefore, individuals may wish to determine whether creating criminal defenses or taking advantage of other legal options is in the best interests of the accused parties.

Three minors were recently taken into custody after an alleged fight at a New Jersey park. It was reported that a video was posted online that purportedly showed two teenage girls being hit by other individuals. One of the girls was reportedly hit in the head with a brick, which led to her needing multiple stitches. The second girl had a considerable amount of hair ripped from her head and was left with a bald spot.

A 12-year-old boy, a 13-year-old girl and a 15-year-old girl were recently taken into custody on charges of aggravated assault. They were released from custody but were required to wear ankle monitors. It is unclear whether they will be considered adults when this case moves forward. Reports also stated that additional arrests were expected to be made.

Being involved in juvenile assault is a serious allegation that could come with serious punishment. As the case proceeds, decisions regarding whether the accused minors will be tried as adults will be made by the state. The outcomes of that decision could have a considerable impact on how the defense will choose to move forward. The accused parties and their guardians may wish to learn more about New Jersey criminal proceedings relating to juvenile crimes in order to have a better grasp on the situation.
